Ipso offers a one-year full-time training in Value Based Counseling (VBC) in English or German. Candidates ideally have a professional background in health care or social sciences obtained in their birth country or elsewhere, but in some cases practical experience in social work may suffice.
The training is divided into two phases, the first consisting of 60 days of full-time intensive training focused on the transfer of knowledge and skills combined with increased self-awareness enabling trainees to internalize the counseling approach. An e-Learning platform which allows part of the training to be held online is currently being tested. The second phase consists of up to nine months of on-the-job training during which trainees are closely supervised and receive follow-up trainings.
In Afghanistan, VBC was integrated into the public health system in a process that began in 2008 and was completed in 2016. In Germany, we have been providing trainings since 2016, primarily for migrants. They benefit from further education which in Germany is certified by DEKRA and therefore eligible for financial support by German job centers and are able to work in a field that supports the integration of fellow migrants in Germany and beyond.
We have trained more than 150 migrants to date. 40 of these counsel clients in our Ipso Care Centers in Berlin, Hamburg and Erfurt and on our secure video platform www.ipso-care.com while others have found jobs with other institutions.
